This Phrase That Pays is at the heart of Wraparound Values. These values don't come to fruition quickly. In our child and family teams we see the dynamics within the provider world needs for time specific outcomes and the family's willingness, ability and readiness to embrace the team and change, provide us with a rich environment to see Incremental Not Instantaneous come to life. One of our parents once said, "Some miracles take a lifetime", which adds yet another perspective of this phrase. Celebrating the incremental steps of daily, weekly or monthly successes helps reinforce the strengths and hope for youth and families. Incremental Not Instantaneous may be a window to building the persistence and perseverance needed to build long term change.

I have found that the three steps "relate , repeat and reframe" are valuable tools in working with families. Thanks for these inspiring comments.

I think this was very interesting to state to all professionals no matter the field. I was trained about seven years ago in utilizing the strengths-based approach.

Listening is important to both pros and family members. I've found that alot of people hear what you have to say, but, they don't listen. There is a difference. The problem I've had and others have had is some of what we listen to isn't said in a way we can understand. We as family members find it necessary to learn new languages when dealing with education and mental health professionals. To tell you the truth we have alot of stuff to deal with besides learning new ways to say things.
Maybe I've missed the point of this blog business, if so, I apologize.

Needs ARE NOT services, however I am always amazed at how this very simple concept can be so difficult to "get" for some, and so self evident to others.
